Abstract

Using the laws of quantum mechanics, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocols provide potentially unbreakable encryption, offering a fresh way to secure communication. Here we take a look at how BB84, E91, and Continuous Variable QKD stack up against one another in terms of efficiency and security. We take a look at the theory behind these protocols, the problems with implementing them, and the factors to think about while putting them into practice. We focus on QKD security proofs in particular, which deal with possible vulnerabilities including detector blinding attacks and photon number splitting assaults. Concerning key generation rates, distance constraints, and integration with existing communication infrastructures, we also investigate the efficiency of QKD systems. Quantum key distribution (QKD) innovations such as quantum repeaters and QKD based on satellites are also covered. Our research shows that QKD is essential for communication security in the future and that there are continuous attempts to make it more practical and scalable. With the hope of shedding light on how QKD techniques could revolutionize secure communications in the quantum age, this paper sets out to present a comprehensive overview of their present status.
