Will to Live Among Cancer Patients

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the will to live among cancer patients.

Methodology: The study employed a descriptive research design, as it was considered the most appropriate approach for the nature of the research problem. The sample consisted of 100 male and female cancer patients receiving treatment at Al-Zahrawi Hospital in M'Sila, Algeria. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Will to Live Scale developed by Sarah Hossam El-Din Mostafa Mohamed (2016) after its psychometric properties had been verified within the current study setting. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Version 22. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including means, standard deviations, and significance tests, were employed to examine the study hypotheses and achieve the research objectives.

Results: The findings indicated a high level of will to live among cancer patients, with a mean score of 84.37. The results also revealed no statistically significant differences in the will to live based on gender (male/female) or duration of illness (less than one year vs. more than one year).
