Abstract

The globalization of fashion has created a complex relationship between cultural appropriation and appreciation, breaking established boundaries and stimulating critical discourse. This study examines how globalization has changed fashion trends, blurring the lines between respectful interaction with various cultures and cultural symbol exploitation. The study examines fashion brand and designer case studies that take influence from different cultures to show how cultural exchange works in the fashion industry. The study examines cultural appropriation's history and current fashion manifestations. Cultural borrowing involves power dynamics, and it raises ethical issues when dominant cultures use elements from marginalized communities without respect. The paper also tackles the increased consumer awareness and activism around cultural sensitivity, arguing for a more conscious approach to fashion that recognizes borrowed cultural characteristics. This study seeks to illuminate the role of cultural appreciation in fashion through qualitative analysis and interviews with industry executives. It promotes collaboration that celebrates diversity and respects cultural heritage to rewrite fashion's globalization narrative. The research helps us understand how fashion can be a polite and beneficial tool for cultural interaction by balancing appropriation and admiration.
